Creativity extends beyond the canvas, photographs or films, and into the media. It can also be an engine to philanthropy, charity, or activism. Patricia Velasquez, an award-winning model, actor an ardent philanthropist, a fervent activist as well as a loving mom, applies an ever-increasing creative flair to all she does, whether it's starring in blockbusters such as The Curse of La Llorona or launching Wayuu Taya Foundation, and taking part on the UNESCO Board. She draws on her instincts and makes her own way, making great strides. "I view my career like a long staircase," she said. "I made every step. It was incredible to do this, as there has been perseverance. I didn't stop moving, just kept my head down. The analogy is directly related to an experience that is forming. Her birthplace was Venezuela and was raised in France or Mexico. After just two years, she made the decision to move to Venezuela. In South America, her parents worked in education , and then relocated the family into an crowded apartment building with no water or elevators that worked. To ensure that water was available for the apartment, Patricia often carried heavy buckets up fifteen flights of stairs. Between her engineering studies and dance training, Patricia attempted to help her family in any way she could. She was sought out to model in Milan and her rise to the heights of fashion was based on a promise made to her family and friends. She recalls that she was required to travel to Italy to model for the fashion industry. "If I could send thirty dollars per month back to Venezuela that would be worthwhile because it will provide all the water used in the building." Patricia's achievements marked an important moment in fashion when she brought the attention of fashion industry professionals to South America for the first time. The "first modeling gig Karl Lagerfeld photographed" was an incredible breakthrough. She went on to appear in shows in front editorial spreads and even in advertisements for Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana and Fendi. The world was abuzz with her presence, she appeared on Oprah and Ford Models' "Supermodel of the World" contests as well. She was also featured on the covers for Vogue, Bazaar, Marie Claire as well as a variety of other publications.
